Easy way to update firmware on Godox TT350

June 25, 2025

I thought I’d share with you my experience trying to get TT350S to work with X2T-F

  1. Couldn’t figure out buttons and menus.
  2. I never read instruction manuals but this time I had to.
  3. Manuals makes no sense.  No spelling errors, but also makes no sense.
  4. Went online to watch youtube how-tos.  Very little info.
  5. Got served video reviews of anamorphic lens and lost an hour down the rabbit hole.  Youtube algorythym is dangerous.
  6. Went on Reddit.  Redditor suggested updating firmware
  7. Found the firmware and the firmware installer from the equally minimalist Godox Support site.
  8. Installed in Macbook.  Scary because the MacOS security didn’t allow unverified installers, so had to google a bit more to figure out how to bypass
  9. Downloaded and installed successfully G3 installer.  IU was another masterpiece of minimalism.
  10. Now need to find a the right cable to connect MacBook to TT350.
  11. Took a while to find the right cable, micro-USB.  It didn’t seem to work well with the modern M3 Macbook Air which uses USB-C.
  12. Switched out a couple of micro-to-C dongles before getting it to work.
  13. MacOS indicates that a USD device is plugged in.  But the G3 doesn’t recognise the TT350.
  14. Even worse, turns out G3 only accepts firmware files in bin format, while the TT350 firmware was in dfu format.  Well, F U too Godox!
  15. More googling to realise that G3 doesn’t support TT350, need to install older G2 installer.
  16. Then found out G2 installer can read dfu but only runs on Windows!  While G3 can’t read dfu but only runs on Windows.
  17. Is this called Catch-22?
  18. Ok, we have a PC somewhere in the house.  I can install G2 there!
  19. Got on the PC.  Forgot how to navigate around Windows (it’s been years).
  20. Downloaded G2 and installed it.  Installer Wizard!  How quaint!
  21. Downloaded found the firmware, but couldn’t find it on the PC.  Really forgotten how to navigate Windows.
  22. Finally found it.
  23. The G2 UI is another triumph of minimalism.
  24. Nevermind, go by intuition and click random buttons… Yes, G2 reads the dfu file no problem.
  25. plugged in TT350, and ran the update…
  26. Screen says ERASING.  Wait… what?!…
  27. a couple mins later… the TT350 firmware upgrade is complete!
  28. Turned on TT350 to check.  Took awhile to remember the archaic button combo, but managed to set ID
  29. Testing out with the X2T trigger…
  30. Voila!  We have sync!  Easy Peasy!

So far, only the manual flash is working.  ie, the trigger will fire the flash wirelessly.  But not sure if TTL works.  To figure that out I need to figure out the menu system.  That’s another post I’ll inflict on this blog next.

And then, I can turn my attention to the TT685
